Can’t Stop Eating? 3 Tips To Get Your Eating Under Control
Ever feel helpless around food? Maybe it’s a certain food. Maybe You can’t stop eating your favorite junk food. Maybe you can’t stop eating your favorite fast food. Maybe you are just eating too much and want to get your eating under control.
Are you trying to lose some weight? Often being overweight is a result of overeating or eating too much. There are different forms of overeating such as binge eating and emotional eating. No matter what form of overeating your engaging in, if you can’t stop eating too much you’ll never be able to lose the extra weight.
Here are 3 tips to help you get your eating under control…
1. Ditch Your Diet. Yes you read it right, ditch your diet, diets do not work. Being on a diet usually deprives you of your favorite junk foods and fast foods. And guess what that does? It increases your carvings for those foods? Sooner or later, in a moment of weakness, you will be tempted to have that junk food or fast food. Once you start eating it, you wont be able to stop.
Instead of dieting work on gradually building healthier eating habits. Start gradually consuming less and less of your favorite junk foods, however don’t cut them out of your diet completely.
2. Setup a Supportive Environment. If you can’t stop eating junk food it’s not a good idea to buy lots of it and store it in your house. Let’s say you can’t stop eating potato chips. Having a family sized bag in your kitchen is trouble. Why? Because in a moment of weakness, those potato chips will look so good, and you wont be able to stop yourself from eating half the bag.
Also if you try to completely deprive yourself of potato chips that is also trouble. Because it will just increase your cravings for potato chips. Instead maybe have one or two individual sized bags in your house at a time. That way you can eat potato chips in moderation. And if you ever feel like you can’t stop eating them, you will only go through 2 small bags. Since to get more you’ll have to inconvenience yourself by going to the grocery store, and you’ll probably just forget about it.
3. Take Care of Yourself. Yes be vain, superficial and spend a lot of time taking care of yourself. Take care of your body shape, exercise regularly, go tanning, shop for some brand-name clothing, get a nice massage, or book an expensive vacation. The more you take care of yourself, the more you’ll value your body, and your overall health. If you spend a lot of time taking care of yourself, you’ll usually pass on that junk food when you are tempted to eat it. Why? Because you have invested a lot of time in your looks and health and will not want to throw it all away just to have some stupid junk food.

i have such trouble with binge eating every night i feel fat and upset and swear ill b super healthy the next day but once agin i eat as much as my body can physically handle! no matter what tips i read i jus keep doing it?
i totally understand what ur saying im goin thru the same damn thing! in the night i peek my head in the fridge and i think tomorrow im going to go running..but sometimes plans dnt work out tht way….i guess cuz i dnt have any support from any1 so im left stranded..I MUST BE MY OWN SUPPORTER!

to the Sarah person, I have the sameeee problem! I’ll just eat and eat until I feel like I’m gonna throw up. I hate it sooo much. I want to be thinner then I already am. some people tell me to put weight on, but I know my body and I know what I want. but I just can’t seem to stop binge eating!
I also have trouble stopping eating- just eat until I feel so ill. i go to supermarket for restocks and really feel so bad about the eating. no idea how to stop? weight going higher and higher. 3 tips are good but have tried them all with no affect. Help!
I do think that all three tips here are pretty helpful. Diets don’t work. My junk food is sweets, like chocolates and cakes. Those are the worst for me.
So, two things I’ve decided to do….I bought a bag of dark chocolate chips (with 60% cocoa) and I allow myself to have 1/4 cup per day. This gives me that sweet that I have to have a day (which is usually between 2 pm and 4:30 pm), plus it gives me those monounsaturated fats that we are supposed to have (they are supposed to help reduce belly fat). The other thing I did…I took two pictures of myself (frontal and back) in just my bra and underwear. It truly shows me what I look like, and I’ll tell you what..everytime I see them, I think “Is that piece of cake (chips, candy, etc) really worth it to keep looking like this?”….The pictures have really helped me. Mind you, I haven’t stopped eating things completely, because I know that I’ll binge A LOT more, but I’m definitely eating a lot less of the junk now because of those pictures. I leave them right out where I can see them all the time.
I’m a 16-year-old girl. I am about 5’1″ – 5’3″ and I weigh 140 pounds or so. I know I’m not completely huge but I can tell I am getting bigger than I used to be. Lately, I’ve been at home alone most of the time sitting on the computer or playing video games because I have no more cellphone to contact my friends after school. Therefore I go home and I sit around and I eat. 3 weeks ago you would have seen me out having fun, not having a care in the world. Now I’m lonely and depressed and eating too much. I crave so much junk food. I put myself on a meal plan that I’m trying to follow but it is very hard, I will admit it.
TODAY
Breakfast:
- one cup of cereal with 1% milk
Lunch:
- one serving of tomato soup (0 fat, 100 calories)
Snack:
- 4 thin carrot sticks and a few cut cucumbers
- one tart
Dinner:
- pasta with Four Cheese sauce
- garlic bread
I realized at dinner I really ate unhealthily. However, this isn’t exactly my fault because we don’t have any of the foods on my diet plan. I made a long grocery list for Mom. We’ve all decided we’re going to be done with the gross, microwavable food that is quick and too easy! Still, I had one big serving of the pasta. I should have made it smaller.
Anyways, I just wanted to say that I will try and follow your advice to stop craving and eating all of these unhealthy foods. I want to feel better about myself, and I’m sure this will help. Thank-you.
I had a bad habit of not eating well. I hide things in my room at nights and leave it there as evidence. I NEED to fix this, I have to stop eating! I will try the 3 Steps and see if they work. I TOTALLY HOPE they do! I will write another for a response.

All great ideas but one: tanning is not a good way to take care of yourself! Skin cancer, melanoma, premature aging – these are the results of going tanning. Go to a dermatologist and get a spray tan if you must, but wear sunscreen outside and please don’t get in a tanning bed!
Over-eating is not what nutritionists think is the main cause of obesity. The main cause is thought to be refined, processed foods. This can be ANYTHING, from breakfast bars to low fat dieters deserts- if you eat them at a weak moment, they won’t satisfy you and you’ll eat more… or you’ll eat more later in the day when you wouldn’t have. These are empty foods. while your recommendation to gradually increase the good foods and reduce bad foods in your diet is a very good one, people need to realize what the good and bad foods actually are, and that protein is what will cure their hunger NOT carbs. switching to brown alone won’t necessarily solve the problem, if brown carbs is most of what they eat at not fruit and veg. Good tips. Honestly I’m trying to find a solution to my problems…and well maybe a miracle. I’ve tried so many diets, so many programs….and i’m so tiered of this vicious cycle. Nothing works. i Just cant lose weight. I start a diet…lose a few pounds…but i cant keep up with it. So i end up assaulting my fridge…and jst gaining back all the pounds i killed myself to lose and some more. I’m i destined to live like a fat person forever??? I’m don’t know what else to do.
I have always looked after myself, but feel now that I have totally lost control of myself in regards to eating – I am consumed with the idea of eating food – a lot of the time I am not even hungry. I have been under a lot of stress for the last year and feel that I dont like myself any more – I am always pretending to be happy but deep down I am not and eating has a become my only comforter.
Sometimes if I feel hungry I floss my teeth weird but true its a good way to take your mind of food I could floss all night………..think slim

Hi Sarah, you may have to look into …what’s eating YOU…as in what’s bothering you? Sometimes people eat emotionally…or maybe you need to accomplish other things in your life that allow you take focus away from food….start exercising even if it’s just walking and you’ll find you have less of an appetite..drink lots of water…you can do it….
Also don’t be hard on yourself …..do the best you can and everyday just try to o better….
What if you have no support around you? What if your skinny reward clothes dont mean anything you anymore?
Does not work at all. This is for people who have absolute zero determination or willpower. The best way to diet is to EAT LESS AND EXERCISE. You have to be determined enough to actually carry out your plans.
I lost 13 pounds in 2 weeks by eating 600 to 800 calories per day and exercising in the mean time. I have not regained a single pound in a month now and I eat around 1500 calories per day. Anyone who says to me “Your way of losing weight is not healthy” can kiss my butt because while I’m enjoying my life with my new confident body, you’re still a fat pig who doesn’t have the determination to actually just EAT LESS. Fatass americans.
I’m like a greedy little pig I’m 35 5″3 115 pounds eat more than my man I was only 109 but after they removed my gallbladder I gained six pounds and feel fat as hell

I also find looking at thinspiration pictures to help alot. When the urge to wanna eat builds up, before giving in i just spend half an hour or so looking at thinspiration pictures and that urge is gone like magic!
Oh wow Frank… are you EVER off base. A starvation diet for 2 weeks is a guarantee of a fat future… I have no doubt that you have re-gained those pounds that you lost PLUS more.
People… PLEASE do do listen to people like this. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know that if you starve yourself, of COURSE your scale will move downwards. But… if you think that it’s fat that you lost, think again. What a person such as Frank has done is lost nothing more than water and MUSCLE; two things that you want to hang on to. You also don’t need a degree to know that you CAN NOT stay on a starvation diet forever. You will begin to eat again. And when you do…. ka-boom!!
Weight loss has to do with NOT ONLY the amount that you eat, but WHAT you eat. Fat does not make you fat. That is old, outdated information.
See a professional nutritionist who specializes in weight loss and can help you become more active. There are no pills, shakes or ‘secrets’ that will cause permanent fat loss. Notice, I said “fat loss”… starving yourself and losing water and muscle and then being pleased because the number on the scale is moving is just simply a bonehead philosophy!!
It’s really scary how many of us are dealing with this. I’ve lost weight before by working out and eating better, only to gain it back. Now I’m staring at the fact that I have to start ALL over again and that is very depressing. But I know once I get back to working out, I won’t eat so much anymore. I work out in my livingroom. I have workout DVDs and weights. So you can easily lose weight right in your home. Someone mentioned brushing your teeth when you’re hungry, and that’s a good idea. I can try to eat better, but I know I have to work out in order for my appetite to decrease. The odds are stacked against us: All the fast food (now open 24 hours), all the junk food, all the commercials that constantly advertise food and make you want to eat. We have to beat this. They want us to fail, get fat and die. Genocide by food. That’s been the master plan all along. We can’t let them win. Stay strong.

When I reach my largest weight which was 140kg I took one look at myself and said enough is enough, I started recording what I ate and of coarse it was a shock how much I ate I was disgusted in myself..
It’s been 10 months later now and I have lost over 30kg from seeing a nutritionist and exercising daily..
The only tip I can give you is look I the mirror naked, if you like what you see then don’t change! But if you feel some discomfort them please see a nutritionist as they have changed my life and they are not expensive!
I also must admit that I still over eat here and there but because of my daily exercise I’m able to keep the weight off…
Your prolly thinking I have never excercised in my life or I have never even ran more than 500meters.. I was in the same boat as you! Start small and work to bigger and greater things!
I have taken small steps, took me 10 months but now I can 18+km with no problem!!
Join a bootcamp, you will be surprised at how many large people are there and how supportive everyone can be! This is a good idea if no one at home is there supporting you..

hello my name naomi mack im 17 year old i have a problem i cant stop eating food not just junk food alll foods i eat anoth to feed a small army every day
i have breakfast,recess,lunch,afternoon tea and tea
even if i cut down im so hungry if i by less it dosent help because as soon as i get money any amout i by food if any one can help i would love it
the funny thing is i eat and eat and eat but i dont gain weight actily im loosing it by it cost alot of money to constly eat help!!!!!
It’s possible you have some issues going on with your blood sugar. I went through the same thing, and it turned out I had diabetes. You should go see your doctor and get checked out just to be on the safe side. Especially if you are eating all the time and still losing weight.
You guys that are overweigh should throw the junk food away for good, and buy healthy foods like vegetables I know it sounds boring but be creative and mix it with other vegetables and sooner or later you’ll forget about the junk food , exercise reguraly and make sure you don’t go back and eat your junk food that happens with alot of people but you need to be strong and be determined!
