Overeating is Easy - Change is Hard almost Impossible

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

I’m not going to lie to you. It was very difficult for me
to stop overeating. Let’s be honest here…

It’s really easy to be a couch potato, overeat all day and
watch television, anyone can do it, pshhh I did it so much
I think I deserve an award ;)

It’s such an easy escape. I mean let’s admit it, life can
be hard, really hard. One day life is great, another life
stinks. And food is an easy pleasure button…

What’s an easier way to please yourself than grabbing a tub
of ice cream and eating the whole thing in front of the
television?

So yes it is hard to stop overeating, almost impossible if
you’ve been dealing with it for years. It was for me. I
did it, but I often felt hopeless…

I often felt like I’m trying to climb an impossible hill of
recovery with no end. Even worse I often felt like I’m
constantly sliding back…

The steps to stop overeating are very simple. However
simple isn’t always easy. After recovering from overeating
I realized I had a step by step system that works, while
it’s simple, it isn’t easy…

Let me explain. Her is a BIG tip to stop overeating:

Regularly Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

Wait, huh, what does comfort zone has anything to do with
how to stop overeating? EVERYTHING.

You see growth and improvement in any aspect of your life
requires getting out of your comfy same day in same day out
lifestyle or routine.

If you keep living your life the same way you are now
you’ll keep getting the same results.

In order to make changes in your life, you have to take
different actions. This is simple easy to understand but
hard to implement, why?

Often those new actions seem scary or a bit
uncomfortable at first. here is a quick example…

To get in shape I decided to join a group exercise class at
my last gym.

It was very scary showing up for the class
because I knew how hard it will be, I was totally out of
shape but I knew I needed the class to motivate me.

Not only was I out of shape but I was fat. I was fatter
than most people in the class and I hated how I looked in
my shorts and t-shirt.

So I forced myself to just show up. And believe me it was
uncomfortable, and I was sore for a week afterword.

But I can’t describe to you how amazing I felt at the end
of that class because I stepped out of my comfort zone.

How can you step outside of your comfort zone? Think of 3
actions that you can take this week to get out of your
comfort zone.

Now write those 3 actions down and commit to
doing them whether or not you feel like it.

I know this is hard, but just try it, and the decide
whether it’s worth it or not.

You’ve got nothing to lose
other than your bad eating habits and maybe some of that
extra wei.ght.

How to Stop Overeating

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Sick of being overweight?  Maybe you’ve been fat all your life, I have and I hated it.  Until recently I was a slave to junk food.  I always asked how to stop overeating and I got all kind of answers that never reall worked.  After years of trial and error, I finally started getting my eating under control and started losing weight.  I put my best tips in a free report than you can get by clicking here.

In this article I will share with you 3 tips to quickly stop overeating and start losing weight…

Tip 1 - Stop focusing so much on what you eat or how much you overeat, rather focus on why you eat.  Do you eat because you’re hungry?  Really hungry?  Pause before answering this question.  Really think about it.  Do you ever find yourself eating due to stress?  Do you ever dig into that tub of ice-cream because you’re depressed?  Do you ever reach out for those chips to escape reality in front of your tv set?

Tip 2 - Get and stay out of your comfort zone.  Wait, huh, what does comfort zone has anything to do with how to stop overeating? EVERYTHING.  You see growth and improvement in any aspect of your life requires getting out of your comfy same day in same day out lifestyle.

If you keep living your life the same way you are now you’ll keep getting the same results.  In order to make changes in your life, you have to take different actions.  Often those actions seem scary or a bit uncomfortable at first.  here is a quick example…

To get in shape I decided to join a group exercise class at my last gym.  It was very scary showing up for the class because I knew how hard it will be, I was totally out of shape but I knew I needed others to motivate me.  So I forced myself to just show up.  And believe me it was uncomfortable, and I was sore for a week afterword.  But I can’t describe to you how amazing I felt at the end of that class because I stepped out of my comfort zone.

Tip 3 - Avoid Isolation.  During times in my life I was a slave to food I often was isolated.  I hated seeing people.  I felt fat and disgusted and stayed home.  And this was a destructive cycle.  Why?  Because being isolated and lonely left me feeling sad and depressed.  And my only friend was the tub of ice cream or that box of chocolate chip cookies.  Eating was my only source of pleasure.  So I stayed isolated and kept binge eating.

You have to get out of isolation.  Go out, make new friends if you have to even if it feels uncomfortable.  Go see your grandma.  Visit some of your distant cousins.  Catch up with your junior high friends.  Do whatever you gotta do to get out of isolation.  Isolation will always lead to overeating.

I hope that reading this article has helped you answer the question of how to stop overeating.  Click here for more tip to stop overeating.

How to Stop Eating Too Much

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Ever start eating a certain food and can’t stop eating it?  You might be engaging in binge eating or emotional eating.

Binge eating is characterized by eating too much in a short period of time.  That is defined as a binge eating episode.  Every start eating a junk food and can’t stop?

You are probably wondering how to stop eating junk foods or how to stop eating fast food.  This is a common issue and it’s why a lot of people are overweight.

Food itself isn’t a problem.  Actually we all need to consume food for it’s nutritional value.  So you can’t stop eating food in general.  Otherwise you might become anorexic, or even develop binge eating disorder.

The first step to stop eating too much is to become aware of why you eat in the first place.  Do you eat only when you are hungry?  Or do you eat to comfort yourself?

Whenever you eating to comfort yourself you are simply engaging in emotional eating.  Now we all engage in emotional eating to some degree so it’s not an eating disorder.

However emotional eating often leads to developing eating disorders such as binge eating disorder.

Instead of engaging in emotional eating, try to pause and question what’s behind your emotions of stress, fear or disappointment that make you run to food for comfort.

You might need to start making some changes in your life to eliminate that stress or fear or disappointment.

Here are more tips to stop eating too much or to stop binge eating.

You Can’t Stop Binge Eating if it’s a Reward

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Trying to stop binge eating or to stop overeating is very tough.  You know you need to stop and get your eating habits under control.  I bet you told yourself I wont binge eat anymore.  This is the last time…

But what happens?  You still have a binge eating episode.  And this sabotages your efforts to stop overeating.  I think you need to go easy on yourself and see why overcoming binge eating disorder is a little tough.

Your body and mind are smarter than you think.  Why do we binge eat if it’s bad for us? Did you realize that there is a payoff or a reward you experience from binge eating?

Let me describe a typical overeating episode for me and see if you can catch the payoff or reward…

“I’m coming home from another stressful day at work.  My job is really boring, I kept trying not to fall asleep at my desk this afternoon.  My boss is annoying and I hate working under him.  I wish I could just quit.  Ahh but then I’ll have to go through the job hunting process and that will be a pain. ” - Automatically without realizing it I just walk over to the fridge and can’t stop eating junk foods.  Now I’m feeling numb, I don’t have to worry about my job, and can just relax and watch some TV maybe.

Did you catch the payoff of my binge eating?  It’s not having to face my real problems in life.  Overeating is the best form of distraction from real problems, and tough action steps that one has to take.  It’s a great avoidance method.

By overeating, I don’t have to start looking for a new job, update my resume, call some recruiters and so on.  I can just avoid the problem all together, or at least postpone dealing with it.

A binge eater who resorts to food for comfort, is just like an alcoholic who stops by the bar at the end of a stressful day.  They are both trying to escape their real life problems.

But Does it work?  NO!  Your problem will be there when you wake up the next morning and have another day.  And you wondered why you cant stop binge eating?  Well now that you see the payoff, I’m sure you can be more understanding and go easy on yourself.

Life is tough, overeating is easy.  To overcome overeating you need to understand why you do it in the first place.  Understanding the payoffs of overeating is very important.  Now that you know some of those payoffs you need to ask yourself some questions.

  • Think of the last time you engaged in binge eating, and ask yourself what was the payoff?
  • Is it a real payoff or is it just temporary?
  • Did overeating really solve my problem?  or did it just postpone me having to take care of it?

The more you ask those questions after a binge eating episode, the more aware you will become of why you binge eat.  This is the first step to recovery from binge eating disorder.

Leave a comment and let me know what you found out from asking those question ;)

Can’t Stop Eating? 3 Tips To Get Your Eating Under Control

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Ever feel helpless around food? Maybe it’s a certain food.  Maybe You can’t stop eating your favorite junk food.  Maybe you can’t stop eating your favorite fast food.  Maybe you are just eating too much and want to get your eating under control.

Are you trying to lose some weight? Often being overweight is a result of overeating or eating too much.  There are different forms of overeating such as binge eating and emotional eating.  No matter what form of overeating your engaging in, if you can’t stop eating too much you’ll never be able to lose the extra weight.

Here are 3 tips to help you get your eating under control…

1. Ditch Your Diet. Yes you read it right, ditch your diet, diets do not work.  Being on a diet usually deprives you of your favorite junk foods and fast foods.  And guess what that does?  It increases your carvings for those foods?  Sooner or later, in a moment of weakness, you will be tempted to have that junk food or fast food.  Once you start eating it, you wont be able to stop.

Instead of dieting work on gradually building healthier eating habits.  Start gradually consuming less and less of your favorite junk foods, however don’t cut them out of your diet completely.

2. Setup a Supportive Environment.
If you can’t stop eating junk food it’s not a good idea to buy lots of it and store it in your house.  Let’s say you can’t stop eating potato chips.  Having a family sized bag in your kitchen is trouble.  Why?  Because in a moment of weakness, those potato chips will look so good, and you wont be able to stop yourself from eating half the bag.

Also if you try to completely deprive yourself of potato chips that is also trouble.  Because it will just increase your cravings for potato chips.  Instead maybe have one or two individual sized bags in your house at a time.  That way you can eat potato chips in moderation.  And if you ever feel like you can’t stop eating them, you will only go through 2 small bags.  Since to get more you’ll have to inconvenience yourself by going to the grocery store, and you’ll probably just forget about it.

3. Take Care of Yourself. Yes be vain, superficial and spend a lot of time taking care of yourself.  Take care of your body shape, exercise regularly, go tanning, shop for some brand-name clothing, get a nice massage, or book an expensive vacation.  The more you take care of yourself, the more you’ll value your body, and your overall health.  If you spend a lot of time taking care of yourself, you’ll usually pass on that junk food when you are tempted to eat it.  Why?  Because you have invested a lot of time in your looks and health and will not want to throw it all away just to have some stupid junk food.

If you can’t stop eating too much junk food or fast food, I hope you have found these tips helpful.
