Binge Eating Recovery

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

While the cause of binge eating is unknown there are many common guesses.  A part of binge eating recovery is understanding what causes the disorder in the first place.  Some believe that binge eating is caused through genes and is hereditary.  Others believe that depression is a cause of binge eating.  Some argue that excessive dieting and deprivation can also be a factor.  Here are some free tips to stop binge eating.

Binge eating recovery is very simple.  It first involves understanding your overeating triggers or the causes of your binge eating.  Often this can be a stressful day, an annoying boss, or negative thoughts.  After figuring out such triggers the next step is to deal with them.  If it’s an annoying boss you need to ask yourself why they annoy you?  Whether it’s worth it working with someone annoying or if it would be better to find a new job and so on.

The next step in binge eating recovery is replacing overeating habits with healthier coping habits.  Overeating is generally a coping mechanism.  Food can be a great source of comfort and can be abused for such a purpose.  Instead of using food for comfort a binge eater is taught other stress relief techniques such as exercise, meditation and sharing stressful events with friends and family.

If you’ve been dealing with eating issues for a while then binge eating recovery might sound very tough and threatening.  You might even be wondering if you can ever really stop binge eating.  Well I got great news of you: you can do it.  I did it and so can you.

overcoming binge eating disorder is really tough unless you have the right knowledge.

Let me explain.  Many people who are dealing with binge eating disorder don’t even know it.  Many are resorting to dieting or weight loss advice.

The problem is that dieting or weight loss advice often makes the problem worse.  I’m sure you would agree.  Have you ever dieted for a few days.  And basically your cravings for junk food got out of control one day, and you just started binge eating?  I have to which is why I learned the hard way that dieting doesn’t work.

So back to the main topic, overcoming binge eating.  If you are reading this I’m guessing you are serious about getting this issue handled.  You are ready to take action and that’s good.

But I gotta ask you, are you ready to do whatever it takes to stop binge eating?  And yes you read it right, whatever it takes to overcome binge eating disorder?

Because if you are not then your recovery from binge eating will be a very long, and very tough.  And that’s the bad news.

Now that the bad news is out of the way, let me share the good news.  Once you decide that you are willing to do whatever it takes to stop binge eating, guess what will happen?  You will recover.  And binge eating will eventually become a thing of the past.  You will be able to finally stop overeating and start living.

How to Really Stop Eating

Monday, July 14th, 2008

The endless dieting and binging cycle.  When will it ever end.  When will you finally get control of your eating habits.  After the last binge you promised yourself once and for all, that you will not binge again, that this time you will stick to your healthy eating, exercising and drop off the weight.  Yet You have made that promise to yourself several times and broke it.  Is there any hope?  YES there is hope…

How would you like to end your binge eating? how would you like to have a normal relationship with food? how would you like to finally drop off those last few pounds, and keep them off for the rest of your life?  Yes it is possible, and yes you can do it…

One of the biggest road-blocks to recovery for me as a binge eater was my unrealistic expectations.  After dealing with overeating and binge eating for several years I still yo-yo dieted.  I would start a new extreme diet expecting myself to finally drop the extra weight and recover this time super fast once and for all.  This is like someone getting on a surfing board for the first time and expecting to surf the first big wave they run into perfectly without falling off the board.  What are they thinking?  What are you thinking?

If you have been yo-yo dieting, and binging now for a year or more, it’s going to take you some work to finally create a healthy relationship with food and create a life long lean body.  Understanding what realistic recovery from binge eating looks like is critical to your own recovery.

For me it meant binging less and less often and having shorter binging episodes. Of course this happened slowly and gradually.  And while I can and will give you future tips on how to speed up this process, there is no magic pill.

The next diet you come across, or the next food plan which might be great and all will not end your binge eating.  Neither will the next great exercising machine or video.  Believe me I’ve tried them all without any luck.  Often I would lose a few pounds, but binge on food for comfort, and gain those pounds and even add on a few extra.

So your first step to recovery is having realistic expectations.  Go easy on yourself.  If you binge forgive yourself.  Otherwise you will feel really guilty and might binge again just to numb out the guilt.  Realize that recovery is possible and that yes you can and will do it in time.

Loving Yourself all the way to Recovery from Binge Eating

Monday, July 14th, 2008

Another night another binge.  Your stomach is so full that it’s aching.  When is it ever gonna end? That’s it, you are sick of this cycle of binging and dieting.  You make a commitment to never binge again.  But you remember that you made that promise last time and still broke it.

What’s going on? What are you missing?  You think you might need more discipline. But where do you get that from?  You feel so alone, and desperate.  You wonder if anyone can understand and help.

Do you love yourself?  Really LOVE yourself?  Do you love your life?

I have to admit, I hated myself for a very long time.  I hated how many promises I would make to myself and break.  I hated how undisciplined and weak I was around food.  I hated how I looked in the mirror.  I would wake up and think to myself, just another boring/dull day.  Most of the time I didn’t even feel like getting out of bed.

Do you love yourself?  Do you love your life? On a scale of 1-10 what would you rate your happiness? What would you rate your success in life?  How far along are you in achieving your goals and dreams?

More often than not we let life take control.  We let circumstances and hardships get the best of us.  Our responsibilities take over.  We no longer feel alive, rather dead inside.

Ever see the happiness and joy in the eyes of young kids.  Remember when you were a kid and everything was so simple? Remember when you had no worries, and just made the best of the moment. I bet you loved your life then.

So how do you live like a kid in an adults body?  Simple, you start creating a life you love.  Lets say that money wasn’t an issue.  Your family and friends could get along with you for a bit.  What would you spend your time doing?  Think hard and deep, if your main responsibility was to have fun, what would you do? Take out a pen and paper right now and make a list.

Now what’s STOPPING you of doing these things?  Maybe you can only start doing activities you enjoy for a few minutes each day.  Well that’s a great start.  I would even recommend have a relaxation hour each day.  An hour where you relax and read non-fiction, watch your favorite tv-show, or go for a walk around town.  An hour where you get to relax without any interruptions.

What’s the point of all this?  It’s simple the more time you spend doing things that you love the more you will love your life and love yourself.  When you love yourself you will naturally give up binging and overeating.  Sounds too simple to be true? Try spending a few minutes each day doing something you really enjoy for 7 days, and then decide for yourself ;)
