Binge Eating Disorder Recovery Tip

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Are you sick of overeating? Your late night eating? Do
you want to jump on the path to recovery from binge eating disorder
yet you don’t know where to start?

In my initial recovery stages one technique that really
helped me is awareness journaling. Awareness journaling
is a a little different from regular journaling.

Awareness journaling is NOT simply recording your days
events or keeping a diary.  Awareness journaling is about
breaking down your thoughts and emotions in real time.

This really helped me with my recovery from Binge Eating
Disorder
.

Awareness Journaling Tools:
—————————
A pocket sized pad and a pocket pen.  The pad and pen
need to be tiny enough for you to carry in your pocket
at all times wherever you go.

Awareness Journaling Rules:
—————————
- Don’t judge what you are writing
- Don’t think too much about what you are writing
- Write freely
- Write whether or not you feel like it
- Review your notes often

Awareness Journaling Techniques:
———————————

* Question Any Feeling or Thought of hunger or food

Example: “I’m hungry”, when you feel or think this, record
it down in your journal and question if you are physically
hungry or if you just want to eat for pleasure? record
the answers in your pad.

* Question Emotions and Come up with Action steps

Example: “I’m stressed out”, when you feel or think this,
record it down, and also
ask yourself what’s stressing me out? Is it something that
I can control? If so What are some action steps I can
take to deal with it?  If you can’t control it, then decide
to let it go and not worry about it anymore. Record all
of this down in your pad.

* Record past flash-backs in your pad. Record past events
situations that you randomly remember, especially if you
think they might be significant.

Example: I remember the one time I locked myself in my
school’s bathroom stall to overeat in private. After
coming out of the stall, a guy who was using the bathroom
informed me that there was a cafeteria down the hall. I
already knew this and felt very ashamed.  (this really
did happen to me).  After this incident I started
wondering if I have an Eating Disorder.

* Record any good ideas or techniques you learn & want
to try out.  This will help you stick to your Recovery
efforts.

* Record how you feel after eating a meal.  Whether it’s
healthy or was a binge, you need to record how you feel.
Example: “I ate a good sized meal, I feel satisfied, light
and energetic” or “I just binged on (list foods) and now
I feel stuffed, my stomach hurts, and I don’t feel like
doing anything else for the rest of the day.”

How Awareness Journaling helps your Recovery From Binge Eating Disorder
———————————————
Bingeing and overeating are usually mindless activities.
Becoming more away of your thoughts, emotions, and actions
will help you start controlling your eating habits.
It will help you gain power over food. When you review your
pad, you will learn more and more about yourself and
your eating habits.

Binge Eating Disorder is Very Common

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

I wanted to share with you 3 things to
help you in your binge eating recovery.

I bet often you feel alone and helpless about your binge
eating disorder.  Maybe You even think you are alone
in fighting it.

Well I’m here to tell you that binge eating disorder
is one of the most if not the most common eating
disorders
.

Here are some eating disorder statistics.

Now on to the three things I’m going to share with you
to help you stop binge eating…

1. You aren’t alone in your binging or overeating battle.

No matter where you are at, how many times you have tried
to stop overeating, you are NOT alone.

Don’t be hard on yourself, don’t judge yourself or think
that something is wrong with you.  Binging or
overeating is often just a way to deal with negative
emotions.

Others might resort to alcohol or
simply watching tv to distract themselves from facing
those emotions.  Bingeing or overeating is no different
it’s not better or worse.

2. Binge Eaters often feel like they have to do too many
things, and please everyone.

I personally did
it all the time. When I was recovering from binge eating disorder I found out that
people-pleasing and caring what friends and others
thought of my actions was a big factor that contributed
to my stress and bingeing in the first place.

Other than having to comply with your countries legal
laws you really don’t have to do anything, care about
anyone or please anyone.  So why do we all STILL
do it?

Well with friends and family it’s often because on
some level we want them to like us. We are scared
to disappoint them or look week in their eyes. And hey
what’s wrong with that, who wants to live a lonely a life
after all?

However if you aren’t careful this can slow your
recovery from binge eating disorder.

We trick ourselves into think that our family
and friends like the version of us that we project to them,
this my friend is a LIE.

Your family and friends will accept you no matter
what, and they will be there to help you if you need it.

Believe it or not they will even accept your
Binge Eating Disorder if you were to tell them about it.

Besides here is another important point you have to
realize.  PEOPLE ARE SMART, and YOUR TRUE SELF
IS ALWAYS COMING THROUGH.

You know when you go to that family event, and you
feel like you have to be there yet don’t really want to.
Do you really think you are tricking everyone else
by acting nice and interested? Do you think people
appreciate that?

90% of people appreciate authenticity above all else.
They respect honesty.  Be honest and open with your
friends and family and they will respect you even
more.

Give this a try, I know it’s not easy, so start small,
be honest about the small things, and build it up.

This is a great first step to recovery from Binge Eating Disorder.

3. Working on being more authentic and honest is tough, so
you are probably asking, Whats in it for me?

For one you well have much more REAL & Authentic relation-
ships with people.  People will appreciate your honesty
and will be honest back.  They will feel like they can
tell you about anything.

Another major benefit is the beginning of your path to
recovery from bingeing/overeating.  Caring too much what
others think, and doing way too much people-pleasing are
two commonalities that many bingers & overeaters share.

They both generate a lot of stress among other
negative emotions that will encourage you to
binge eat.

Now make no mistake, you have to work on this
gradually.  Like I said start being more honest
with others about the small things at first.

It might not be easy, but believe me it will
remove a lot of stress, worry and resentment
from your life. And it’s the beginning of your path to
recovery from binge eating disorder.
