Hi everyone, I'm a 21 year old college student and division I cross country runner...and also a binger. Stress relating to school, running, and my sister's illness (cystic fibrosis), has become unbearable, and unfortunately I have turned to food. I returned to campus a couple days ago and I'm currently living alone until my roomates show up for classes, and all I've done is binge. I feel sick, depressed, and and I know I should call my parents and tell them what I'm going through but I'm so embarressed. Luckily running has made it so the past few months of binging has only resulted in a 6 or so pound weight gain, but I'm very short (5'1"), and 6 pounds is very noticeable on my frame. I'm afriad that if I don't stop I won't be able to run...I'm totally uncomfortable in my skin and it's starting to affect my relationship with my boyfriend (who is the best boyfriend in the world and doesn't deserve to be dealing with my depression and binge eating problems). I would love someone to talk to...some advice on what to do when I feel a binge coming on. Every time I'm alone I end up binging...but I love alone time, and I don't want to give it up just because I can't control myself around food. Please help! I think this forum is great, and I would really appreciate some advice.

hi dear, hope you are doing well, u have to look at food for what it is just fuel, nothing more, you eat to survive, rememebr food satisfies only hunger nothingelse, not boredom, not depression, not fatigue.....emotions need to be met differently not with food, if you are bored or tired go to the mall (not food court), call a friend, read, dance, take a nap,....food is not the answer, that emptiness you feel is not hunger dont fill it with food b/c food is not gonna fill it up, go out enjoy life, keep telling yourself that!!!!everytime yougive in to your binge it becomes stronger, you have to remind yourself that you have control...food will be alawys be there and i promise the urge will leave!!!!

    Hi Colleen
I'm sorry you've been having such a rough time!
It's a good thing that you started posting here on this forum
Maybe you could read through some of the other people's threads, there's a lot of good advice there!
Keeping a food (and emotions) journal here or just for yourself also helped many of us
When you feel like bingeing, ask yourself if you will feel better afterward...
maybe you will immediately after bingeing, but what about the next five minutes, the next hour, tomorrow?
Do you have anyone close to you that you can talk to? not necessarily about the bingeing, but about how stressed out you've been feeling about everything that's going on in your life...
You will find a lot of support here, so if you have any questions, feel the urge to binge, or just wanna vent, this is the place to be!
    big hugs
    Charlotte
