Hey everyone. I'm new to this forum. I guess I will tell you a little bit about myself. Last year around this time, I lost some weight due to stress in a relationship. Shortly after that, I gained about 13 pounds. From about Jan to May of this year, I was on a very strict diet and exercised every day for at least an hour and a half. I was able to lose the 13 pounds. However, since then, I have found myself binging at least 5 days a week, where it used to be only once or twice a week. I still exercise almost daily. But I know that at one point it will catch up with me. It seems that I can do really well during the day (when I am at school), but late at night is when my binge occurs. I moved to somewhere new, so I do not really have support so I am trying to deal with it on my own, but I seem to be unsuccessful. All I seem to think about is food. Any advice? Thanks.

Can you tell us what your eating is like in the day time? Many people who binge at night often are very restrictive during the day, they either deprive themselves from certain foods or try to eat very little calories, or basically diet during the day, and crash at night.

Yes, you got it on the dot. I eat alot of low calorie foods during the day, carrots, apples, low cal soup. Then later on at night I seem to eat everything in sight.

That is the problem right there, you deprive yourself in the day time, so when night time comes you can't help but eat all the foods you have been avoiding.

This is precisely why diets don't work. You need to gradually start incorporating some of your favorite junk foods in your meals in small amounts, otherwise you'll always binge on them out of deprivation.

I agree with you completely. I just think that I will not be able to control later on anyways, therefore, I try and "save up" my calories during the day so I can use them at night

Hi anonymous......i started of doing the exact same thing as you....late at night is quiet and a time where you reflect and have time to think about your emotions. This may be something you avoid so comfort and hunger combined= binge eating.Saving up calories will not work...please try and allow yourself to eat...

    binger,

you made a great point, I agree.

I have overcome my binge eating and one of the keys was to eat more balanced meals. Whenever I starved myself or deprived myself during a meal I would often binge eating later on that day. A combination of healthy foods and some junk food makes a good balanced meal. Once you start having balanced meals the temptation to binge eat will go away slowly on it's own, b/c you'll already be eating some of your favorite foods and wont feel deprived or start craving them.

Minipro i havent conquererd my binge eating.they are not as frequent but do occur..i am allowing myself the odd treat like Andrew said you have incorpirate junk food into your daily diet...i have been there...im guessing you feel constantly anxious about food. You are trying to avoid it and when you do eat it you want to be incontrol...im guessing you are not sure if you are eating too little or to much.

I really appreciate all of the advice! I will try your suggestion. I have read that binge eaters should just try and get their eating undercontrol and not worry about losing weight. However, I am very stuck on losing more weight. I don't consider myself too much overweight (according to my BMI, I am actually in the normal range- 5'3" 135 pounds) but I don't feel like I am a "normal" weight. Yesterday I did well..no binge. I have done well today as well.
