HI Sara: I looked at that website and don't know what they mean by NLP. There was a forum member earlier this year that went for hynotherapy. She felt great right afterward, but still binged a while later. Her assessment was that it didn't actually work for her.
I feel the key psychological state that something like hypnotherapy can induce is relaxation in the face of stressors like one's own fears and mistakes related to those fears. We tend to tense up when we catch ourselves in a compromised situation like overeating. If we could relax during our 'mistake' I think both the physical and emotional damage is loads smaller.

i spent money on 2 hypnotherapist who wasted it!
Perhaps it does work for some people but i think im not receptive enough. Do your research and find a good one first. The best thing is to relax, tnere are cheaper ways

Hi girls
Thanks fr your input. Nicole, did you do the hypo specifically to stop the binges or to relax? As I understand it, the purpose is not just to relax but to program the mind to let go of the bad habit and choose other ways to deal with emotions. I already meditate and there is no better form of relaxation in my opinion. Maybe i will cancel my appointment as it is quite expensive and I'm sick of spending money on things tat don't work.
Helen, NLP is Neuro-Linguistic Programming. It is a popular tool used by mmost hypnotherpists and they claim good success. I used a set of CD'd called "Think Slim" based on NLP and got no benefit.
How an they claim to cure it in 3 sessions if for many it doesn't work?

That's always the problem, they say you need more and more sessions to actually gain any benefit so we keep forking out money to pay for it.
Anything that i have to pay for like that i always question there intentions.
Thats why this site has been so helpful, not having to pay for anything.I did buy Andrews book though which was very helpful.
Maybe give it a go and see how you feel after 1 session.Posted 11 months ago # -
I'm booked in for a hypnotherapy session this Friday so I'll keep you posted.

Hi Hopeful
For what it's worth, if it triggered a binge, then it might not be right for you at this point in time. I did 6 hypno sessions about 18 months ago and ended up binging more ... don't know why. However, it might've been the hynotherapist - he actually got a little creepy so I stopped going. About a year ago I bought a 'think slim' mp3 set ... it's by a guy called Mark Stephens. The first time I used it, I didn't find it helpful at all and put it away. But I really didn't give it much chance. A year later, I've been using it regularly at night and it's definately not triggering any binges, and in fact, there are 'messages' that are in the recordings that pop into my mind when I'm doing my grocery shopping ... good messages around buying the right kinds of food. As a result, I find I have less 'binge' foods in the house than before, but I don't feel deprived ...? A CD / mp3 approach might be more cost effective too - you can listen to it as many times as you like... hang in there ...Posted 11 months ago # -
Hi allison
I also got the Think Slim MP3 about a yera ago and it did me no good. I started resenting it. I also think its important that messages are made relevent to you, an those messages "drink more water, drnk more water" did work but i was already drinking way over 2L a day and it got to 6-8 L a day and the doctors said it was taxing my kidneys. i didn't need that message! I found some of it annoying too.
I'm a very resistent case.
They're a live in reteat calle Fountainhead in Queensland that claim good syccess with eating disorders but it's a min one month stay and very xpensive and a bit of a risk since it's not clear what they actually do.
