Hi! My name is Halie and this is my first time ever telling someone about my eating habits. I've finally reached by tipping point and I know I need help and need to change. I have been overeating for about 2 years now, but over the past few months, it's gotten so much worse. I have also been on a "diet" for the past few years. After every time I binge, I promise myself that the next day, week, and month will be better, but after a day or two, that promise gets broken. I feel totally hopeless right now and don't know what I can do to stop this. I've gained 15 pounds over the past several months and have been trying so hard to break my habits so that I can lose that weight. I really want this to stop because I always feel so terrible after I binge and so upset with myself. I'm going to start posting what I eat tomorrow, hopefully that will help!

Hey Halie! I really think posting on here will help you. I've only been here a short time and I'm finding that it helps me a lot to get everything out, know that people won't judge me and understand what I'm going through. Trust me it is really helpful. Just so you know you're not hopeless and with time things will get better. You'll see that there's a lot of talking on here about intuitive eating, which is basically listening to your body about when you're hungry and should eat and most importantly not restricting food. Remember we're always here for you! ~Hillary

Thanks so much Hillary! It's so comforting to talk to other people about this who are going through the same thing I am. Thanks a lot for all your support. I have to admit, I already feel a little better and a little more motivated to get this under control!

Hey Halie! Welcome to the forum.. you're in the right place! So your post actually sounds a lot like me, but I was wondering how you eat when you're not binging? Are you dieting still? Because the "dieting mentality" is what leads a lot of us to binge because your brain is fed up with restricting and just wants to eat eat eat! Maybe posting your food would help, but many of us on this forum have found that eating intuitively has been the biggest helper in stopping the binging and SLOWLY loosing weight. Unfortunately any quick fixes for your weight may not last long because they'll have you on another binge in a week or less! I hope you keep posting!!

Hi hal! I know what you mean by you feel so hopeless and it's so hard because you diet and then break it by binging which ruins all the hard work. I am struggling to learn not to diet and just not let losing weight be the focus. It's so hard for me because I just keep thinking I want to lose weight.. but right now I'm trying to think everyday okay do not binge, but eat healthy... It's so hard.. I never knew food could consume your life like this. I've tried eating 1000 calories a day and then on the 7th day I always binge like mad like 3000 calories or more and you know what ? I haven't even lost a single pound. It's so not worth it restricting like that and so yea..I am trying to see what will work for me. If I could go at least a month without binge eating oh man I'd be sooooo happpy!!! please keep posting here and I wish you good luck. you can check out my food journal (Emi's journal).

Hey Halie! Just wanted to say welcome. I know it feels good to finally find a place where you can divulge your eating habits and find support! I agree with the girls above..in order to stop bingeing, you have to stop dieting. Its hard to get your mind around eating what you want when you are hungry, but thats the way to do it. Its a process of re-learning how to listen to our bodies and basically eat like we did as kids. It takes work but many of us have put lots binge free days behind us doing it..so you can too! Keep posting. ~Lauren

Thank you so much for all the support, it really feels amazing hearing from all of you and reading about all of your stories. I have spent the last year trying to always restrict myself to 1200 calories if possible. Some days are successful, some days not so great. I'm going to try and stop counting calories, because it's ultimately exhausting and try eating what I want only when I am hungry. This new kind of freedom might be a little dangerous at first, and the thought of not losing weight quickly is a little scary, but I think I have to come to terms with the fact that weight loss will be slower, but it will be healthier and I will binge less. I'm not sure if I can stay in that kind of mindset for too long though. So here is what I had today to eat.

B: bagel and a tiny piece of banana bread
L: banana and crackers with peanut butter (definitely overdid it on the peanut butter - this has always been one of my pitfalls)
D: going to a delicious vegetarian place so hopefully I will pick something good and not overdue it on the fries!

I really want to thank everyone for you support. It feels so good to talk to people and hear from people who know exactly what's going on, and it makes me realize that I can overcome this too.

Hey Halie! I'm so glad that you feel comfortable here and that you're able to talk about everything that is going on. I agree the support from this forum and how much everyone understands is amazing. I know how you feel that it is a little scary knowing that things like weight loss will be slower now, but you're right it is healthier and even better it is more likely to be permanent. Where you're eating dinner tonight sounds delicious too!

Hey Halie! I think it's a good decision to try and stop counting calories and really focus on listening to your body. I was actually counting calories for about 2-3 years and finally stopped about a month ago, and I'm finally about to reach my first month binge free which is a huge accomplishment for me and I honestly think that stopping counting calories was the best thing for me! Keep at it!

Hey Halie...your mindset is perfect. Ever time you find yourself anxious for that quick weight loss "diet" (which does always lead back to bingeing) just re-read what you wrote in that post about wanting a healthy lifestyle and to have that freedom from calorie counting! Doing great..hope you had a great time at the vegetarian restaurant! YUM! ~Loz
