“Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. Only let us hold true to what we have attained.” Phil 3:12-17
I had already mentioned this in my accountability post, but I wanted to put it out there again–
I am a believer in Christ. I want to be a slave to Christ, and not a slave to food. Christ bought me at the price of His own blood and bore the wrath of God for my sake–I long to worship Him and have my life ruled by Him in thankfulness. If you are a believer then you KNOW that being a slave to Christ is a paradox…being His slave is being free. And being “free” to eat whatever you want is where the bondage lies, because the root of it is sin.
“…count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.” Romans 6:11-14
I would really encourage anyone to read Romans chapter 6. Christ frees us from the slavery of this sin. We are under grace.
“Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.”
Stay away from temptation. Pray for deliverance from it. I think you guys know…once you take that first bite, you’re submitting yourself to be a slave to this master of gluttony and self indulgence. You are obeying evil desires. You are DEAD in your trespasses in sins.
“but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.”
Offer yourself to God, instead. Use your time, your intellect, your will, your emotions, to glorify Him–that is where LIFE is. To live is Christ. (Phil 1:21)
lol I’m really sorry if this seems preachy. Just trying to be real, though. I hope this can be encouraging for some of you.
PLEASE PM me those of you want to encourage or be encouraged by the Word, which is able to give life and freedom. Even if you don’t believe don’t hesitate to PM me. Please, please know that there is freedom in Christ. I know that is the truth.
I also know that God even uses sin to glorify Himself–He is made perfect in our weakness (2 Cor 12:9). So I also want to encourage you when you slip up…instead of plummeting into the abyss of self hatred and guilt, FIGHT against that. Nursing yourself in guilt profits nothing, it’s only taking away from God’s glory and putting the focus on YOURSELF all the more. When you slip, IMMEDIATELY fall to your knees. IMMEDIATELY repent. Pour your heart out to Him. He knew you were going to binge before you did it. He knew you were going to binge before He created the foundation of the world! You’re not gonna tell Him anything He doesn’t know! But he is so pleased by repentance and the turning from sin. Hand EVERYTHING over; your guilt, your shame, your pride, your emotions, even your physical ailments, sacrifice them all to Him for righteousness. And then stand in awe at the amazingness of God’s forgiveness. He casts away sin as far as the east is from the west and completely forgets it.
Then get up, wash your face, forget what lies behind, and strain forward to what lies ahead.
