One of the main mantra to avoid binge eating has been “throw away all the junk food and everything that distracts you from out of sight”. And I did. I don’t binge eat on cakes or sweets or such items. But my weak point is I eat everytime my toddler eats and sometimes more. I deal with food almost 18 hrs a day and I end up overrating rice mostly. And lot more.
I feel helpless. Anyone else in the same situation? Any tips or suggestions?
hey sowmya, firstly i have to say that i don’t agree with that mantra at all!! i don’t think it’s feasible to remove all this food from your life – as you said there is always food around when you are preparing it for others or in your job or whatever. there have been a few people on this forum who work in the food industry who have overcome this so i just wanted to let you know that it can be done and that you are not alone.
one thing i have done recently is aim to eat more protein and fat combined, which is helping my satiety a lot. so if you are going to graze throughout the day, try to aim for meats and nuts/avocado, rather than rice.
another thing you could look into is “intuitive eating” which i know has helped a lot of people on this site, the gist of which is “eat when hungry, stop when full”. try to be aware of WHY you are eating, when you put food in your mouth – try to have self-awareness, and maybe start a journal of your thoughts in this forum – it really does help xoxox
