I am trying the whole intuitive eating thing.. but I'm really having trouble figuring out whether I am feeling an urge to binge or if I'm actually hungry.. because always before I binge I feel "hungry" and so I'm scared I might just binge. Right now I kind of feel hungry.. but it's really weird because I had a really filling dinner of rice and chicken that made me really full. I'm not sure if it's just the binge urge coming on. I'm thinking I should just wait maybe 10 to 20 min and see if I'm still hungry. Any way you can tell? Thanks.

Do you actually feel the hunger signals where your belly is growling or feels empty, or you feel weak, lightheaded? Or is it your mind telling you it wants to eat for the pleasure or to deal with some emotion? Try and see if its your belly or your head telling you to eat.... sometimes I'm just in the mood for a little snack even if I'm not particularly hungry so I have it...but the key to having it not turn into a binge is eliminating ALL guilt about it. I tell myself its totally fine and forget about it..but the second I beat myself up and say I "shouldn't" have had it, or now I'll eat less later or something like that, then it'll lead to a binge..

When I had my therapy, I was told to eat regularly, despite my feelings of hunger. It is very dificult to eat intuitively at the beginning. This is because the the binges made our body behaving in a strange way. Therefore, one way of approaching (the way I did it myself) is to plan what you are going to eat, say the next day. Take into account what you are doing so the times of your meals won't clash with the activities on that particular day. Plan to eat enough and often enough - 3 to 4 hours is maximum. Than just stick to your plan. You don't need to follow it to exact little thing - this is not a rule, it's plan. In my case, after following it for few months (I did slip several times) I started to feel hungry on the times I was suppoused to eat anyway.
