Hi everyone,

I see a dietician as well (and a therapist) at the Emily Program for eating disorders. I originally went to them because of my anorexia, but now that I'm binging and gaining weight, I don't know why I still have to follow a meal plan and limit my exercise. I only want to keep my weight the same (not lose weight)!!! They are very nice people, and I've learned to trust them very much. Just one word of advice for all of you: don't expect councelling to cure you, but rather to guide you on the path to recovery. It is you that has to make all the decisions and changes yourself. Good Luck to all of You!!!

Hey everyone, I know that it has been awhile, but I wanted to update everyone on my progress. I have been seeing a counselor for 3 weeks and it has been tough but helpful. It feels good to know that I'm not the only one that knows about my bingeing. She referred me to a nutritionist, and I have been seeing her as well. Hopefully the two combined will help me out. The counselor dx me with depression/anxiety, so I was put on antidepressants. I have only been on them one week, so it hasn't helped much with my mood, however, it has helped me with my bineging (probably because in many cases, they make me feel nauseous). Regardless, I have not had a binge in over 2 weeks, so I am hoping with everything combined, I am on the right path. I just want everyone else to keep their heads high!

Thank you so much. I think it will go very well. She advised me to also see a nutritionist, which I also think will be beneficial. I hope that by summer, I can go back to somewhat thinking "normal" and be happy and comfortable with myself. I am trying to go in with an open mind, but I sometimes can't help to think that I may never get over my obsession with food and thinking about food.

I am sooo proud of you.

You did really well to do that and I am glad you have found a counsellor who it seems like you can get on with, that is good as it isn't always the case.

It is a definite step in the right direction.

That's a really good idea to write down what you want to talk about and give it to them! Great advice Jacqui!! I'm starting conselling next week and I've been a little stressed about how I'm going to bring it up, but I might just steal this idea!! Thanks

Jacqui,
Thank you so much for your help. When I went in, I just wrote down what my issue was and handed it to the counselor..because then I knew there was no turning back. It was very emotional to talk about it, but she did not make me feel like it was my fault or that I was the only one in the world to ever have a problem like this. I am going to continue my sessions..I hope this is a step in the right direction. I have felt a little better the past few days..4 days binge free and I haven't even had the urge.
Thanks again!

Well done for having some better times, everyone eats badly over Christmas that is normal.

I would suggest that you write down the main points of what you feel you need to talk to the services about, then when you go you can either use it as a promt if you get stuck, or you could give it to them at the start and just let them read it, I have done both ways with different people in the past and both can work depending on how comfortable you feel.

I really hope that they can help and offer some support.

Hey all, sorry I have not been active for awhile..it was holiday break at school and I do not like to log on when there are people around. I want this semester to be a fresh start and I finally want to overcome my binging..over the holiday I did not binge as much, but I also ate really bad food. Since I have been back at school (since Sunday), I have not binged...I have been recording what I eat and exercising. I also made an appointment the schools clinical services...however, I am not sure exactly how to talk about my binging (because I am so embarrassed). This will be the first time I have ever told anyone (I started bingeing in May 2008)...any advice? Thanks
